SURFACE ERGONOMIC KEYBOARD BLACK WINDOWSThe included Sculpt Mouse, for right-handed use only, includes a Windows button for quick access to the Start Screen, and its four-way scroll wheel allows for easy navigating up, down, left, or right. However, because this elevates the keyboard typists need to ensure that they are able to adjust the keyboard position to an appropriate height or they may actually be moving to a "less" ergonomic position when attaching the riser. The Sculpt Ergonomic keyboard ships with an optional magnetically-attached riser that can be used to elevate the front of the keyboard to create an ergonomic negative slope that can aid in reducing wrist extension. The absence of a FN key means that the quick access to secondary functions that is available on most keyboards is not an option. This is accomplished by a slide switch in the upper right corner of the keyboard. Although these keys do support secondary functions such as multimedia, the secondary functions can only be accessed by switching between Standard mode and Alternate function mode. In addition, the F-Key "buttons" have a lower profile, are only about 40% the height of a standard keycap, and use a high-force membrane switch. However, the varying size of the keys, a feature which serves no ergonomic purpose, may prove frustrating to those accustomed to a standard layout. The keycaps feature a slightly concave surface to aid in finger positioning as well as a subtle crowning that provides more distinction between keys than many current scissor switch keyboards. The response is evenly consistent across all keys with the exception of the F-Key "button keys" (see below). The Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard is equipped with low-travel scissor switches that have a higher "return to neutral" or "bounce-back" rate than most laptop style keyboards, providing clear tactile feedback. Note: This means that if the receiver is lost or damaged, there is no way to replace it - the keyboard, mouse and numeric keypad will no longer function. Each keyboard set is permanently paired with its receiver at the factory. The wireless keyboard features Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) technology, designed to help protect information by encrypting keystrokes. The Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop from Microsoft combines the wireless Sculpt Ergonomic Keyboard with a low profile numeric keypad and the Sculpt Ergonomic Mouse, all connecting through a single wireless 2.4 GHz mini receiver. Not a big deal, but on the go every gram counts.ĭesign: I really liked the gap in the Sculpt Ergonomic keyboard.Ergonomic Benefits Features Images Additional Resources Specifications Usage Tips Models Accessories (948 grams with the numpad, or 997 grams with the mouse, 1103 grams for all three). Weight: 1012 grams vs 842 grams for the black one. Hard to justify given that the black ergonomic keyboard + mouse + numpad cost $100. Again, I hope I'm wrong, I will not buy if this is confirmed. So it won't work with my SP3? This is not mentioned in the store listing. SURFACE ERGONOMIC KEYBOARD BLACK PRONum pad: Having the num pad attached means the mouse will be further right.Ĭompatibility: "Surface Pro 4, Surface Book, Surface Studio" (see product page link above). The new one seems to be optimized for a desk, instead of a pull-out table under the desk and is missing the stand (I didn't see it on any of the photos on product page or store listing also there seems to be no "connectors" at the bottom). I hope I'm misunderstanding something, I will not buy if this is confirmed.Įrgonomy: Previous versions had a stand that (magnetically) snaps to the bottom front of the keyboard to achieve "Reverse tilt angles to promote a straight neutral wrist position". This is not mentioned on the product page. That's ridiculous - I'm currently typing in the 300 cpm range and hope to improve. Typing speed: according to the store listing the typing speed is limited to 200 characters per minute. Some of them are speculation, because there isn't enough information at the moment. But today I saw several things that make me reconsider. A while ago /u/Daniel_Rubino said that he has seen the new ergonomic keyboard from Microsoft, like the old one, but grey and with numpad.
